Organized programs

The Platform for Fish Farming Technology Development in Hungary has organized four professional meetings and one closing meeting where different players and representatives of different spheres of the fisheries sector were invited. The objectives of the meetings were to address all participants of the product chain, assessment of their needs, analysis of the areas and production phases to be developed, exploration of possibilities, etc.


Representatives of the consumer sector

Held on 20th February, 2009 with 24 participants


This group represented “average” people who are involved in fish consumption, as well as specialists of food science related to fish consumption. Furthermore, representatives of some companies were also invited who receive feedback on consumer demands and opinions from stores, supermarket chains and restaurants.


Representatives of the Production sector

Held on 27th February, 2009 with 43 participants


All participants of the sector were invited to this meeting who are in one way or another involved in fish farming or a service related to aquaculture. A significant percentage of the population is registered as an angler, thus, they are directly or indirectly related to aquaculture producers. Several angling associations were also represented at the meeting as a significant proportion of them are involved in management of waters serving thus an important community of Hungarian anglers (the different angling associations have around 300 000 registered members).

Several companies participated in the work of this workshop that are involved in trade with aquaculture products or process fish as a raw material giving it an added value.


Representatives of the sector control (Water management, fish health, environment protection, advocacy groups, etc.) and research

Held on 20th March, 2009 with 47 participants


People involved in the activities of this workshop included education and research staff of the three major agricultural universities (Gödöllő, Debrecen and Kaposvár) as well as employees of the Research Institute for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Irrigation. In addition to the lobbyist organization of the sector, the Hungarian Fish Farmers' Association and the Ministry, the professionals of different water management, animal health and environmental officies were also important participants. Thus, almost the entire circle of sector stakeholders were able to express their views.


Closing ceremony for all participants

The meeting that summarized the conclusions and essence of the four workshops also accommodated the introduction of the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform as wel as the Russian National Aqauculture Technology Platform. In addition, Mr. Ferenc Kováts from the National Agency for Research and Technology had a presentation, creating thus the ideological harmony of project callers and implementers regarding the role of these platforms.
